The majestic Japanese Crane stands almost five feet tall with a wingspan of more than six feet, its black and white plumage capped with a red crown. Fabled to live for one thousand years, the red-crowned crane, or tsuru, is treasured in Japan and appears in art, literature and fokelore as a symbol of longevity and good fortune, honor and loyalty.
Throughout Asia, the crane is a symbol of peace, happiness and eternal youth. The Japanese refer to the crane as “the bird of happiness”. The Chinese call it “heavenly crane” believing the crane to be a sacred bird and a messenger of the Gods. A mothers’ prayer for her child’s protection is, “Oh flock of heavenly cranes, cover my child with your wings”.
The crane was believed to convey the souls of the dead to paradise, and to carry people to higher levels of spiritual enlightenment. A notion that in the west, perhaps, became the stork that carries babies from Heaven.
A favorite subject of origami, it is said that if you fold one thousand cranes your wish will come true. Flocks of paper cranes are offered at shrines and temples with prayers and hopes that the dedication involved in folding such a large number will be rewarded. Origami cranes are commonly given as get well wishes, as a wish for happiness, or as an expression of sympathy and peace.
Cranes mate for life and are devoted to their partners, the male and female birds working together to build nests and care for their young. This fidelity has made the crane a symbol of happy marriage. Strings of origami cranes are used as wedding decorations and crane motifs often appear on wedding kimonos.

The MorrÍgan ("terror" or "phantom queen") or M„rrÍgan ("great queen")
(also known as MorrÍgu, MorrÍghan, Mor-RÍoghain, sometimes given in the plural as MorrÍgna)
is a figure from Irish mythology who appears to have once been a goddess,
although she is not explicitly referred to as such in the texts.
She is associated with sovereignty, prophecy, war, and death on the battlefield.
She sometimes appears in the form of a crow, flying above the warriors.
She is generally considered a war deity comparable with the Germanic Valkyries,
although her association with cattle also suggests a role connected with fertility, wealth, and the land.
She is often depicted as a triple goddess, although membership of the triad varies;
the most common combination is the Badb, Macha and Nemain, but other accounts name Fea, Anann, and others.
